Sinciput 1.5 Alpha-1

PHP 5 Support for Sinicput

Author: M Butcher
Date: 2007-07-13 15:52:01 -0400

Sinciput 1.5 Alpha-1 is now available for download. This new release adds a new colorscheme, improved HTML editor, improved search and indexing, improved topic support, and many other fixes.

The major change, though, is the migration from the aging PHP 4 platform to PHP 5. Because of the structural changes in PHP, this is a complete transition -- there is and will be no support for PHP 4.

Roadmap:
Sinciput 1.5 is likely to be the last major Sinciput release written in PHP. Work is already underway to transition into a far more robust Java-based product.

Sinciput 1.5 will have:
  • Complete support for PHP 5.

Sinciput 2 will have, amongst other things:
  • A fully-featured search engine.
  • Support for multiple values (instead of one value) for each field.
  • A completely overhauled topic map.
  • Better bibliography support.
  • Extended information for sources.
  • Lecture/Class types.
  • Multi-user support.
  • Explicit support for research groups.
  • Tremendous speed improvements.
  • Better security.
  • Profession support and host options.
