Working with JavaScript in Drupal 6

A Two-part Introduction to JavaScripting in Drupal

Author: M Butcher
Date: 2009-03-17 10:21:27 -0400

As an introduction to my latest book, Drupal 6 JavaScript and jQuery, Packt has released a two-part series entitled Working with JavaScript in Drupal.

This tutorial covers the basics of JavaScript in Drupal, creating simple script files, creating custom themes, and adding JavaScript to a theme.

Part 1 explains how Drupal handles JavaScript internally and how JavaScript files can be organized within Drupal. Use JavaScript in themes. Or bundle script files into a module. In either case, Drupal will provide the tools you need to add client-side scripting to your site.

As Part 1 continues, it walks the reader through a simple tutorial on building a script (circa-1997 style!) to be added to an existing site.

Part 2 introduces Drupal themes. In this part, the reader is walked through the process of creating a sub-theme (a derivative theme), adding new script files and PHP template files along the way.

By the end of this two-part tutorial, readers should be able to add JavaScripts to Drupal themes.

Of course, this is only a small snippet of the material covered in Drupal 6 JavaScript and jQuery.
